Personally, I thought Tobey Maguire did for Spider-Man what Keanu Reeves did for Johnny Mnemonic. (Not a compliment...) But Roger Ebert disagrees -- and he makes a good point.
Imagine 'Superman' with a Clark Kent more charismatic than the Man of Steel, and you'll understand how 'Spider-Man' goes wrong."
Ebert calls the special effect sequences in the movie "as convincing as Mighty Mouse."

The hard part wasn't casting Peter Parker, but casting the spider who bites him. "The black widow spider was definitely the best visually," director Sam Raimi told the Calgary Sun, "but we needed the red markings on it. We couldn't paint the spider or it would die - so we had to make it a little costume."

Yes, I saw Spider-Man this weekend, and I'm already sick of the hype. ("Batman who?" read Reuters' lead. "You mess with Spider-Man, you mess with New York." That was going to be mine...) But I don't want to write about box office records.

I was one of those people who read Spider-Man comic books as a kid. After I saw the movie, I came home and read some old Spider-Man comic books. And I enjoyed them more. That's really all I need to say.

All right, if you must have some analysis from me, click here.
